The genius of the humbucking guitar pickup has been around over 1/2 a
century and is still going strong today. Invented to cancel the 60 cycle hum
that made other pickups noisy, little did they know the sound or "tone" of
these pickups would be highly desired for a long time to come.
Not to improve, but create variations on this theme is the intention of the
M-Tone (modern tone) humbucker pickup. Using hand winding techniques, these pickups retain vintage tone AND give the pickup saturation
beyond normal "PAF" output. 4 conductor lead wire is used to ensure wiring
options are available for even more "modern" tones (unless custom ordered
w/vintage braided).
$90
The differences?... The M-Tones are more saturated than our standard humbucker. As you go from the 12, to the 14 and 16, the level of possible saturated distortion gets higher. Obviously your amplifier and any effects also add to the gain levels, but the higher the model, the quicker these will overdrive. You also get an eq shift from the 12 to 14 to 16. The MT12 being brightest, MT14 less highs and a touch more mids, then the MT16 even less treble w/a mid range hump.
Finally, factor in the right magnet to fine tune your MT.
